Verse 26 is found in chapter 7 of Deuteronomy. Covenant faithfulness is connected with blessing, multiplication, and protection, while idolatry threatens the relationship with God. Moses reminds Israel not to fear the peoples of Canaan because it has already witnessed God’s power in Egypt. The nations’ cultic objects must be destroyed rather than accumulated, preventing the religious wealth of the defeated peoples from becoming a spiritual trap.
