But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.

Verse 8 is found in chapter 11 of Ecclesiastes. Light is pleasant and life is valuable, but dark days will inevitably come. The young person is encouraged to rejoice and walk according to the desires of the heart, but is immediately reminded that God will judge every action. Joy is not presented as absolute moral freedom. Youth should be enjoyed while simultaneously recognizing the brevity of life and responsibility before God.
