Verse 12 is found in chapter 8 of Ezekiel. Ezekiel witnesses secret idolatry practiced by elders. The contrast between their position of authority and their religious conduct reveals the corruption of those who were supposed to lead the people. The claim that the Lord does not see or has abandoned the land reveals a false theology used to justify unfaithfulness.
