Verse 5 is found in chapter 10 of Hosea. The inhabitants of Samaria fear for the calf of Beth-aven when political power enters crisis. The image will be carried away as tribute and the priests will be ashamed. The prophet announces that the high places will be destroyed and that the people will desire to hide from the divine presence. What appeared to be an object of religious trust becomes a source of shame.
