Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

The verse 17 is found in chapter 51 of Isaiah. Those who know righteousness should not fear human contempt because God’s salvation endures. Jerusalem is called to awaken and drink the cup of wrath, but afterward that cup will be placed in the hands of her oppressors. The image reverses the people’s situation: those who seemed condemned will recover their dignity.
