The verse 12 is found in chapter 58 of Isaiah. The fasting God accepts consists not merely of outward affliction, but of freeing the oppressed, sharing bread, and caring for the needy. Isaiah dismantles a false separation between worship and social justice. When the people practice mercy, light, restoration, and God’s presence are described as consequences of authentic worship.
