The verse 7 is found in chapter 9 of Isaiah. The darkness of the preceding chapters gives way to a great light over Galilee and the promise of a child whose rule will bring justice and peace. The titles attributed to the ruler present extraordinary authority, and David’s throne is established upon justice. The contrast between oppression and righteous rule prepares one of Isaiah’s great messianic portraits.
