Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Verse 18 is found in chapter 2 of James. James anticipates the objection of someone who would separate faith and works. His response is to demonstrate faith through works, because an invisible claim must be manifested in conduct. Even intellectual belief in God, by itself, does not constitute the obedience James demands.

Mas dirá alguém: Tu tens a fé, e eu tenho as obras; mostra-me a tua fé sem as tuas obras, e eu te mostrarei a minha fé pelas minhas obras.
