The verse 13 is found in chapter 11 of Jeremiah. Judah and Israel have formed a conspiracy by returning to the idols of their ancestors. When judgment comes, their numerous gods will not be able to save them. The comparison with a green and beautiful olive tree shows that Israel’s destruction does not result from divine inability, but from its own unfaithfulness.
