The verse 3 is found in chapter 15 of Jeremiah. God declares that neither Moses nor Samuel could intercede to completely avert the judgment of a generation determined to turn away. Destruction is presented through four kinds of punishment. The image of a mother losing her children intensifies the pain of judgment and shows that national rebellion will have familial and generational consequences.
