The verse 13 is found in chapter 17 of Jeremiah. Judah’s sin is engraved on its heart, not merely recorded in external actions. The contrast between one who trusts in humanity and one who trusts in Yahweh uses images of a dry shrub versus a tree planted beside waters. Jeremiah asks for justice against his persecutors and reaffirms that God examines the heart.
