The verse 10 is found in chapter 23 of Jeremiah. Jeremiah denounces prophets and priests who live in ungodliness and use religious authority to legitimize their own conduct. The true prophetic word is compared to fire and a hammer that breaks the rock. The criterion for recognizing a prophet is not popularity, but faithfulness to God’s word.
