The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,

The verse 1 is found in chapter 34 of Jeremiah. Zedekiah is warned that Jerusalem will be handed over to Babylon, but he is promised that he will die in peace and receive funeral honors. The chapter also recalls a temporary liberation of Hebrew slaves carried out during the siege. The initial act of obedience will later be reversed, revealing the moral inconsistency of the leaders.
