The verse 7 is found in chapter 35 of Jeremiah. The Rechabites are used as an example of faithfulness to an ancestral instruction. Jonadab had ordered his descendants to abstain from wine and certain forms of settlement, and they had maintained the practice. Jeremiah contrasts their obedience to a human command with Judah’s disobedience to the commandments received from God.
