The verse 26 is found in chapter 36 of Jeremiah. The officials hear the scroll and eventually bring it to the king. Jehoiakim cuts the columns of the document and burns them, but the physical destruction of the scroll does not destroy the word. The scene demonstrates the difference between political authority and divine authority: the king can burn a manuscript, but he cannot cancel the message it contains.
