Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

The verse 17 is found in chapter 37 of Jeremiah. Jeremiah attempts to leave Jerusalem and is accused of defecting. He is beaten and imprisoned, but Zedekiah consults him secretly. The answer remains firm: the king will be handed over to Babylon. Despite the hostility, Jeremiah requests decent treatment and receives some protection, showing the political complexity of the kingdom’s final days.
