The verse 6 is found in chapter 39 of Jeremiah. Jerusalem finally falls and Zedekiah is captured after witnessing the death of his sons. The temple and houses are burned and the people are taken into exile. In contrast, Ebed-melech receives a promise of protection because he trusted in Yahweh. The chapter thus distinguishes between the fate of a rebellious city and that of a person who acted faithfully.
