The verse 9 is found in chapter 41 of Jeremiah. Ishmael assassinates Gedaliah and those who were with him, turning the hope of a stable administration into a new crisis. The assassination occurs after a meal and expands into a massacre. Internal violence demonstrates that Judah’s collapse does not simply end with Babylon’s departure.
