The verse 17 is found in chapter 50 of Jeremiah. Babylon, the instrument previously used to discipline Judah, now receives a lengthy oracle of judgment. Israel and Judah will be sought and will return together to Zion, while Babylon’s sins lead to its downfall. The reversal is central: the empire that appeared permanent becomes an object of judgment.
