In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.

The verse 4 is found in chapter 50 of Jeremiah. Babylon, the instrument previously used to discipline Judah, now receives a lengthy oracle of judgment. Israel and Judah will be sought and will return together to Zion, while Babylon’s sins lead to its downfall. The reversal is central: the empire that appeared permanent becomes an object of judgment.
