Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

The verse 1 is found in chapter 52 of Jeremiah. The final chapter narrates the fall of Jerusalem under Zedekiah. The king attempts to escape but is captured and brought before Nebuchadnezzar; his sons are executed and he is blinded. The narrative functions as the historical fulfillment of numerous earlier warnings from Jeremiah concerning rejection of the divine word.
