Verse 4 is found in chapter 2 of Job. The second heavenly scene deepens the challenge. Satan argues that Job could still abandon his integrity if suffering reaches his body directly. God permits another test but establishes a limit. The narrative thus preserves a tension between divine sovereignty and the mystery of suffering that will occupy much of the later poetic speeches.
