Verse 18 is found in chapter 38 of Job. God asks Job whether he can command the dawn, understand the boundaries of the earth, and know the places of light and darkness. The questions do not merely present cosmological information: they seek to show that Job does not possess a complete perspective on the world God governs. The mystery of his suffering is placed within a much greater mystery.
