Verse 28 is found in chapter 10 of Joshua. The campaign continues against Makkedah and Libnah. The cities are defeated according to the established narrative pattern: attack, surrender of the city, and destruction of its inhabitants. The repetition communicates the progressive expansion of the southern conquest. Rather than describing every battle in strategic detail, the narrator focuses on the theological formula that the Lord gave the cities into Israel’s hands.
