Verse 24 is found in chapter 13 of Joshua. Gad receives its territory, followed by the inheritance of half of Manasseh. The chapter concludes by repeating that Moses gave this inheritance to the tribes east of the Jordan. Levi again remains outside the ordinary territorial allotment. The conclusion establishes a structure that continues in the following chapters: the inheritance is assigned tribally under divine authority and through Joshua’s administration.
