Verse 19 is found in chapter 22 of Joshua. A delegation led by Phinehas confronts the eastern tribes and recalls the sin of Peor and Achan’s transgression. The concern is not merely about their own conduct, but about the possibility that the sin of one part could bring judgment upon the entire community. Achan’s memory explains why Israel reacts so seriously to any threat of collective unfaithfulness.
