Verse 4 is found in chapter 22 of Joshua. Joshua dismisses Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh after recognizing that they fulfilled the commitment made before crossing the Jordan. Their return to their eastern territories takes place after they have helped their brothers during the conquest. Joshua exhorts them to love the Lord, walk in His ways, keep His commandments, and serve Him. Military unity is transformed into an exhortation to maintain spiritual unity.
