Verse 16 is found in chapter 3 of Joshua. The Jordan stops flowing when the priests step into its waters, and all Israel crosses on dry ground. The scene deliberately parallels the exodus: the God who opened the sea also opens the way into the inheritance. The priests remain in the middle of the river until the entire nation has crossed, emphasizing that collective deliverance precedes the continuation of the journey. The promised land begins to be occupied through an action explicitly attributed to God.
