Verse 13 is found in chapter 5 of Joshua. Joshua encounters a figure identified as the "Commander of the Lord’s army" and asks whose side he is on. The response corrects the human perspective: the fundamental question is not whether God is serving Israel, but whether Israel is submitted to divine command. Joshua falls facedown and is told to remove his sandals, echoing Moses’ experience before the burning bush. The conquest is thus presented as holy ground under divine authority.
