Verse 32 is found in chapter 8 of Joshua. Joshua builds an altar on Mount Ebal and writes there a copy of the law of Moses. The blessings and curses are then proclaimed before all Israel. Placing this ceremony immediately after the campaigns of Jericho and Ai is theologically significant: conquering the land does not replace obedience to the law. Israel must establish itself in Canaan as a people governed by the covenant, not merely as a territorial power.
