Verse 13 is found in chapter 11 of Judges. Jephthah attempts to resolve the conflict through a historical argument addressed to the king of Ammon. He recalls that Israel did not take Ammonite territory but lands that had belonged to Sihon, king of the Amorites. The argument is based on historical memory and the conviction that the Lord had given the territory to Israel. The conflict is thus presented not only as a military dispute but also as a matter of interpreting history and territorial boundaries.
