Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.

Verse 27 is found in chapter 11 of Judges. Jephthah concludes that the Lord gave Israel the land of Sihon and asks why Ammon seeks to recover it after three hundred years. He also states that each people possesses what its god gives them, while Israel possesses its land because the Lord gave it to them. The Ammonite king does not answer the argument. War is therefore presented as the result of a territorial claim that could not be resolved through negotiation.

E anche io non t’ho offeso; e tu procedi malvagiamente inverso me, guerreggiando contro a me.
