Verse 9 is found in chapter 12 of Judges. Ibzan, Elon, and Abdon appear as later judges. References to marriages, children, and riding animals reflect periods of relative stability and prosperity. Unlike the major war narratives, these condensed notes show that the book also records ordinary forms of governance. The succession of judges, however, does not break the general pattern of Israel repeating its history of crisis and deliverance.
