Verse 4 is found in chapter 14 of Judges. Samson desires to marry a Philistine woman from Timnah, provoking his parents’ opposition. The narrator adds that this was from the Lord, because God was seeking an opportunity against the Philistines. The statement does not automatically make Samson’s desire a moral model; it shows that God can use even circumstances arising from the judge’s imperfect behavior to advance his purpose against the oppressors.
