Verse 20 is found in chapter 5 of Judges. The Canaanite kings gather near Taanach, but the stars and the waters of the stream poetically participate in the enemy’s defeat. Meroz is cursed for failing to come to the Lord’s aid. The poem interprets the battle as a conflict in which creation itself appears aligned with divine action. Meroz’s absence also shows that neutrality in a communal crisis can be considered blameworthy.
