Verse 35 is found in chapter 6 of Judges. The Midianites and their allies gather for battle. The Spirit of the Lord comes upon Gideon, and he summons the tribes. Even so, Gideon asks for signs through the fleece to confirm the divine word. The passage shows both the Spirit’s action and Gideon’s insecurity. The signs do not present a general method for discerning God’s will but a particular episode within his calling.
