Verse 2 is found in chapter 2 of Lamentations. The second lament interprets Zion’s fall through God’s sovereign action. The expression that the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud communicates the loss of protection and honor. Destruction reaches both national structures and religious institutions.
