Verse 10 is found in chapter 8 of Nehemiah. The people weep when they hear the Law, but Nehemiah, Ezra, and the Levites call them to recognize the holiness of the day and celebrate. Sorrow over awareness of sin is not rejected, but neither does it become the assembly’s final destination. The Word leads to a communal response of joy and generosity.
