Verse 18 is found in chapter 14 of Numbers. God announces judgment upon the people, and Moses intercedes by appealing to God’s revealed character. His prayer does not deny the seriousness of the sin, but asks that the divine response be consistent with mercy and with the reputation of God’s name among the nations. Moses’ intercession thus becomes a theological presentation of divine patience and forgiveness.
