Verse 29 is found in chapter 21 of Numbers. Israel requests passage from Sihon, king of the Amorites, but he goes out to fight and is defeated. Og, king of Bashan, is also defeated. These victories east of the Jordan represent an important change from the generation that feared the inhabitants of Canaan. The people begin to experience militarily that they can advance when God gives them territories and enemies.
