Verse 9 is found in chapter 6 of Numbers. The Nazirite vow describes a voluntary form of special dedication to God. Abstaining from products of the vine, caring for the hair, and avoiding contact with the dead express an extraordinary consecration. The vow demonstrates that Israel had particular forms of personal dedication, although they remained subject to specific regulations and to the holiness required by God.
