Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

Verse 18 is found in chapter 24 of Proverbs. The wise person receives responsibility for those being led unjustly toward death. He cannot excuse himself by claiming ignorance because God knows the heart and weighs intentions. Then comes a warning against rejoicing when an enemy falls: such an attitude may bring the Lord’s displeasure. Biblical justice does not authorize turning an adversary’s misfortune into an occasion for personal celebration.
