Verse 2 is found in chapter 101 of Psalms. Psalm 101 presents an ethical program for one exercising authority in the royal household. The commitment to sing of mercy and justice is accompanied by concrete decisions: avoiding perversity, rejecting slander, and refusing to tolerate deceitful conduct. Authority is measured by the character of those admitted into its sphere. The goal is to establish a political community where integrity and faithfulness are conditions of service.
