Verse 1 is found in chapter 10 of Revelation. John sees a mighty angel with a little open scroll, surrounded by cosmic signs and standing with one foot on the sea and the other on the land. The angel swears by the Creator that the announced time will reach its fulfillment when the seventh trumpet sounds. The little open scroll contrasts with the sealed scroll of chapter 5 and may indicate that part of God’s purpose is now available for revelation. The angel’s declaration emphasizes that God’s mystery is moving toward its consummation.
