Verse 6 is found in chapter 11 of Revelation. The two witnesses receive authority to prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days while clothed in sackcloth. They are described as the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the Lord of the earth, evoking the vision of Zechariah 4. Their power recalls episodes involving Moses and Elijah: shutting the sky, turning waters into blood, and striking the earth with plagues. The combination of these backgrounds presents the witnesses as prophetic representatives who confront the world with God’s testimony.
