And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

Verse 13 is found in chapter 12 of Revelation. After being thrown down to the earth, the dragon pursues the woman. She is given the wings of a great eagle to flee into the wilderness, where she is nourished for a time, times, and half a time. The dragon attempts to sweep her away with water, but the earth helps the woman. Finally, he becomes enraged against the rest of her offspring, identified as those who keep God’s commandments and hold the testimony of Jesus Christ. Persecution thus appears as a consequence of the accuser’s defeat and as part of his final hostility toward the faithful people.
