Verse 3 is found in chapter 12 of Revelation. A woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars, appears in heaven. She is pregnant and gives birth while a great red dragon waits to devour the child. The symbolism brings together images of Israel, the people of God, and the messianic community, so the woman should not simply be reduced to one individual figure. The child is destined to rule the nations with a rod of iron, a clear allusion to Psalm 2. God protects both the child and the woman, and the scene introduces the conflict between the Messiah and the dragon.
