Verse 4 is found in chapter 13 of Revelation. A beast rises from the sea with ten horns and seven heads, combining features of the beasts in Daniel 7. The dragon gives it his power, throne, and great authority. One of its heads appears mortally wounded, but the wound is healed, causing worldwide admiration. The scene constructs a parody of authority and life: the beast imitates characteristics belonging to the true rule of God and the Lamb. The worship it receives reveals that the conflict is deeply religious, not merely political.
