Verse 8 is found in chapter 14 of Revelation. A second angel announces the fall of Babylon, presented as the great city that has made the nations drink the wine of the wrath of her fornication. Babylon has not yet been fully described, but this proclamation anticipates chapters 17 and 18. The image of prostitution represents unfaithfulness and seduction through power, wealth, and idolatrous worship. Her fall constitutes an inversion of the apparent stability of the system dominating the nations.
