Verse 13 is found in chapter 18 of Revelation. The kings, merchants, and seafarers of the earth mourn Babylon’s fall because they lose the economic system from which they benefited. The laments list gold, silver, precious stones, fabrics, spices, metals, animals, and merchandise, showing the breadth of her wealth. The repeated expression "in one hour" contrasts enormous material accumulation with the speed of its disappearance. The chapter thus denounces a civilization whose prosperity is intertwined with domination and luxury, not simply the legitimate use of material goods.
